Curriculum - Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS)

Humanities and Social Sciences is the study of human behaviour and interaction in social, cultural, environmental, economic and political contexts. Humanities and Social Sciences has a historical and contemporary focus, from personal to global contexts, and considers opportunities and challenges for the future.

At Belmay Primary an integrated approach is used to facilitate 'HASS skills' through Questioning & Researching, Analysing, Evaluting and Communicating & Reflecting. These aspects provide students with life long skills that can be used in many areas of the curriculum.

HASS Skills are explicitly taught and are used to develop the knowledge, values and understandings in these key aspects:

  • History

  • Geography

  • Economics & Business

  • Civics & Citizenship

Programs provided at the school include:

  • Cooperative Learning strategies

  • Access to internet for research

  • Use of Ipads in different contexts

  • Resource centre – Library access and computers

  • Incursions / Excursions

  • Merit Awards each term

  • Student council and Leadership program

  • Peer Support

  • KidsMatter - social and emotional wellbeing program.
