Student Leadership

A variety of general leadership roles associated with specific school programs are assigned to different year levels.

School Prefects are appointed from the Year 6 group and are responsible for coordinating and running weekly assemblies, organising community fundraising events and supporting the school administration during special events.

Faction Captains support the physical education program by coordinating faction training sessions and leading their faction during athletics carnivals.

Year 6 students are given the opportunity to mentor their peers from Pre-primary to Year 6 through the 'Peer Support' program. These students will lead a small group from Belmay of mixed ages in activities that build confidence, develop independence and practice social skills. It is a great opportunity to develop leadership abilities.

Healthy Habits

Belmay Primary School promotes healthy habits.
Eating:
We encourage families to make healthy food choices when packing lunchboxes for the day. This allows the brain and body to function at an optimum level. Most classes observe 'Crunch&Sip' which encourages students to have 'brain food' such as vegetables and fruit and a water bottle whilst performing classroom tasks.
Sleep:
The importance of good and lengthy rest periods for children allow the brain and body to rest and recover. The recommended sleep times for children of primary school age range from ten to thirteen hours per day.
Growth Mindset:
Belmay also encourages students to believe in their own growth and development. We teach students to believe that with effort and practice they can develop their skills and abilities in whatever area of interest.
